Rahman & Rabbi Legal, based in Dhaka, Bangladesh focuses on representing clients with cases involving corporate & commercial laws, arbitration, business law, banking and finance, corporate finance, employment and labour law, energy laws, merger and acquisitions, securities, telecommunications law, property and trust litigation. Mr. Md. Monzur Rabbi, a Fulbright Scholar, is currently functioning as the Senior Partner and Head of Chambers. Mr. Rabbi is qualified as a Barrister in England and Wales and also an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. Mr. Rabbi is the first and the only lawyer so far from Bangladesh who, upon receiving a Fulbright Scholarship from the Government of USA, pursued an LL.M. in International Arbitration at the University of Miami School of Law, Florida, USA. This White & Case International Arbitration LL.M. Programme, under the leadership of Professor Jan Paulsson, offers specialised courses on all aspects of international commercial and investment arbitration. This set of Chambers has been founded by Mr. Md. Mahbubor Rahman, a retired District Judge and also an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. Mr. Rahman has more than forty (40) years of legal experience as a Judge and an Advocate and he is currently functioning as the Advising Partner of the Chambers. Mr. Rabbi previously worked with A Hossain & Associates, the Chambers of Mr. Ajmalul Hossain QC. Since its founding, Rahman & Rabbi Legal has represented clients ranging from private individuals to small businesses and large corporations.

Md. Monzur Rabbi

Md. Monzur Rabbi is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and is a Barrister (Lincoln’s Inn) at the Bar of England and Wales. He is currently functioning as the Senior Partner and Head of Chambers of Rahman & Rabbi Legal. He is a legal professional with over seven years of experience and his Areas of expertise include International Arbitration Law and Practice, Dispute Resolution including Negotiation and International Mediation, Commercial, Corporate, Telecommunications, Banking and Finance, Aviation, Power and Energy, Shipping Law, International Trade and Public International Law, among others. He is an international arbitration lawyer with specialisation in international commercial and investment arbitration. Mr. Rabbi holds law degrees from Bangladesh, United Kingdom and United States of America. Upon receiving a Fulbright Scholarship from the Government of USA, Mr. Rabbi pursued an LL.M. in International Arbitration at the University of Miami School of Law, Florida, USA. He previously worked with A Hossain & Associates, the Chambers of Mr. Ajmalul Hossain QC. He previously worked in a number of national and international arbitrations and he has the experience of appearing before international commercial arbitral tribunals. On top of that, being invited by University of Oxford, UK, Mr. Rabbi sat as a Judge at the International Round of the 10th annual Monroe E. Price Media Law Moot Court Programme held at the University of Oxford, UK in April 2017. He has already internationally published on different aspects of law and economics.

Notable Representations

Advised a UK based multinational company in respect of International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) arbitral process in Washington DC, US and the dispute resolution mechanism through the Dispute Settlement Board (DSB) of the World Trade Organization in Geneva.

Represented the telecom regulator of Bangladesh in a public demand recovery litigation arising out of failure of payment of license fees by an International Gateway (IGW) licensee - the claim is valued at over US$22 million.

Represented a US based apparel company in an employment dispute arising out of termination of one of its employees working with the Bangladesh country office.

Advised an export-oriented Chinese company doing business at the Mongla EPZ on transfer of company shares and represented the same in regularizing the consequential management change with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies & Firms (RJSC).

Represented a UK based multinational tobacco Company in a litigation regarding the infringement of trademark of one of its major brands and passing off its goods and been successful in obtaining a favourable judgment in less than six (06) months.

Advised as a retainer legal adviser a telecommunication company involved in the Nationwide Telecommunication Transmission Network (NTTN) business on different aspects of telecommunications laws, commercial laws and regulatory issues with the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

Represented a multinational Company in a compensation claim arising out of losses occurred from trademark infringement and passing off its goods - the claim is valued at over US$11 million.

Advised a trans-national consortium consisting of counterparts from Bangladesh and Malaysia involved in structural development of the National High-tech Park under the regulatory framework of the National High-tech Park Authority of Bangladesh.

Represented one of the largest privately owned scheduled banks of Bangladesh in a number of financial transaction litigations before the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.

Advised a multinational company on the possibility and procedure of trans-border transactions of its employee phantom shares as foreign securities under the auspices of foreign outward remittance guidelines of Bangladesh Bank.

Advised a leading telecommunication company of Bangladesh on formation of its Board of Directors (BOD), share management, vertical & horizontal merger, sharing of Point of Presence (PoP) including the legality of laying the last mile fiber by mobile operators.

Successfully represented a multinational tobacco company before the consumer courts of Bangladesh in a number of consumer-complaints brought by individual consumers as well as consumers associations.

Advised a leading power grid company of Bangladesh in respect of its corporate governance including regularization of company returns with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies & Firms (RJSC).

Represented a multinational company in a major commercial fraud litigation arising out of criminal breach of trust through the generation of fraudulent split purchase orders by one of its employee – the claim is valued over US$11 million.

Advised a scheduled bank of Bangladesh regarding acceptance of the electronic form of cheques (e-cheques) and truncated cheques under the auspices of local laws and customary international law & practice relating banking as well as negotiation instruments.

Advised a telecommunication company in respect of leasing out of its infrastructure including fiber optic cable network and transmission capacity for building point to point data connectivity within the auspices of the Infrastructure Sharing Guidelines of the telecommunication regulator of Bangladesh.
